Blockchain technology is undergoing integration into global financial and industrial infrastructures. Early developments include the planned Ethereum ‘Glamsterdam’ upgrade to increase capacity, the European Central Bank’s examination of blockchain for monetary policy, and Japanese authorities exploring real-time settlement for stocks and bonds. In the United States, banking associations are working toward a joint network for tokenized deposits and programmable payments.

As the technology expands, its application has broadened to include industrial sectors, such as testing digital identities for robotics to facilitate financing and insurance. The US Securities and Exchange Commission is also exploring the use of public blockchains for trading tokenized stocks via smart contracts.

Despite this growth, the sector faces escalating security risks. While early incidents included vulnerabilities in the Cosmos EVM, more recent reports indicate a massive increase in cyber threats. Chainalysis has noted that state-sponsored hackers are utilizing the immutable nature of blockchains to store malware commands, contributing to a reported 400 percent increase in malicious entries.
