Global climate change and polar environmental impacts

This warming has resulted in a 17% reduction in sea ice surface area over 42 years.

The consequences of these changes include increased coastal vulnerability to erosion and rising sea levels, with an estimated 60% of Arctic coastal infrastructure at risk. Additionally, the intensification of storms due to rising temperatures is linked to greater economic losses, with increased risks of stronger tropical cyclones and frequent extratropical cyclones in northern Europe.
