Market research firms have provided varying outlooks for the display and television sectors through 2030. SigmaIntel projects that global OLED TV shipments will rise from 6.1 million units in 2024 to a peak of 7.6 million in 2028, before declining to 7.2 million by 2030. Conversely, LCD TV shipments are expected to decrease until 2027, reaching a low of 206 million units, before a slight rebound to 208.4 million units by 2030. This shift may be influenced by potential exits from the LCD panel business by manufacturers such as Taiwan’s AUO by late 2027, which could lead to higher factory utilization rates and potential supply shortages starting in 2028. Manufacturing costs are also a growing concern. Driven by memory semiconductor prices, memory is expected to account for 20-21% of manufacturing costs for 65-inch TVs between late 2026 and mid-2027. For smaller 32-inch models, the impact is more significant, with memory projected to comprise 41-44% of costs during that period. Omdia reports that demand for LCD TV panels is expected to remain strong through the second half of 2026, helping manufacturers maintain capacity utilization of approximately 80 percent. While the smartphone display market faces challenges, OLED technology is gaining share in IT products like notebooks and tablets. The foldable smartphone market is forecasted to grow significantly, with global shipments expected to double to 36 million units by 2028, driven by a shift toward “wide-format” book-type devices. 2028. Omdia predicts a 44% increase in inner display shipments for 2026, reaching approximately 29 million units following a decline in 2025. This rebound is attributed to “wide foldable” formats designed for multitasking. Samsung Display is projected to potentially capture a 66% market share by supplying AMOLED displays for major models like the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Apple’s iPhone Duo.
