Global gender parity progress and projections
Overview
Recent data from the World Economic Forum (WEF) highlights both regional progress and the long-term timeline required to achieve global gender parity.
In late September, reports indicated that Europe had reclaimed its position as the global leader in closing the gender gap, having closed 75.7% of the gap. While the region showed near parity in health, survival, and education, it trailed North America in economic participation and opportunity. Specific challenges were noted in France, where surveys indicated that 77% of female employees believe women have fewer chances to reach management positions than men.
By mid-October, the WEF Global Gender Gap Report 2026 projected that at current rates, it will take approximately 120 years to reach global parity. Global parity was measured at 69.2%, a slight increase of 0.4 percentage points from the previous year. While health and education are nearing parity, significant gaps persist in political empowerment (22.1%) and economic participation (61.7%). Iceland remains the global leader, being the only country to close more than 90% of its gender gap.
