Recent developments in the healthcare sector highlight advancements in both clinical research and organizational innovation. In Greece, IASO Hospital announced a scientific conference scheduled for October 31, 2026, focusing on infectious disease management, including the antifungal resistance of Candida auris and the integration of artificial intelligence in diagnostics.

In Sicily, the healthcare agency Asp di Siracusa has received significant international recognition for its technological initiatives. At the World Hospital Congress in Seoul, the agency’s ALICE (AI Laboratory for Infection Control and Epidemiology) project was selected for the Innovation Hub, while the CLARA project received a special mention in the IHF Awards 2026. These projects, led by the SIFA team under Santo Michele Pettignano, combine clinical and IT expertise to improve patient safety and medical decision-making.

Furthermore, Asp di Siracusa was awarded the ‘FORUM PA Sanità 2026’ prize for its GENESIS artificial intelligence infrastructure. Developed using internal resources, GENESIS automates the production of clinical and administrative documents. Testing on 420 complex cases demonstrated that the system reduced the time needed for discharge letters and hospital discharge summaries (SDO) from 30–60 minutes to just 5–10 minutes, while improving the completeness of clinical sections from 65% to 100%.
