The landscape of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply involves several major long-term agreements aimed at enhancing energy security and market diversification. In British Columbia, the Ksi Lisims LNG project, a partnership between Western LNG, Rockies LNG, and the Nisga’a Nation, secured a 20-year binding sale and purchase agreement with the German state-owned company Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE). The deal involves the purchase of one million tonnes of LNG per annum. This agreement brings the project’s total completed binding agreements to 7 million mtpa, or approximately 58 per cent of its planned 12 million mtpa capacity. The project, located near Prince Rupert, aims for a final investment decision by the end of 2026. Separately, Metlen and Shell Global LNG Limited signed have also entered into a five-year contract binding long-term agreement for the supply of LNG. Following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2026, the five-year contract is set to commence in 2027. Under the terms, Shell will supply Metlen with six LNG cargoes annually, totaling approximately 0.6 billion cubic meters per annum. Commencing in 2027, the These cargoes will primarily originate from Shell’s United States portfolio to serve the Greek and broader European natural gas markets. Metlen described the agreement as a strategic step toward diversifying its energy supply sources and enhancing its role within the European energy landscape.
