Safety concerns regarding lithium-ion power banks have led to product recalls and increased regulatory scrutiny across multiple regions. In Canada, Health Canada issued a recall for approximately 30,000 XO Poppy 5000 mAh MagSafe-compatible power banks manufactured by Truststone Group. The recall was prompted by risks of the devices overheating and melting at the charging port, which poses fire and burn hazards. In Europe, Ploonk B.V. has expanded its recall efforts in Germany. Following earlier concerns regarding Imoshion brand power banks overheating without visible external signs, the manufacturer has now issued a specific recall for its 10,000 mAh MagSafe Powerbank (model IM-PB-0007). This recall targets units from batch numbers 2024-06-0004 and 2024-09-0007, which were sold through retailers such as Amazon, MediaMarkt, Kaufland, and eBay between July 2024 and June 2026. Users are advised to stop using the devices immediately due to the risk of fire. Specifically, the Dutch importer Ploonk B.V. warns that the battery can overheat during charging, potentially causing a fire even if no external defects are visible. Customers with affected units—available in white, black, blue, pink, and green—are advised to stop using and charging the devices. To receive a refund or replacement, users must contact the company with a photo of the product and batch number; notably, proof of purchase is not required. Consumers are further advised to store affected devices in safe locations away from flammable materials. Concurrently, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has implemented a large-scale crackdown, revoking or suspending over 4,200 safety certificates for In late September 2026, Ploonk B.V. issued further urgent warnings regarding the Imoshion brand 10,000 mAh wireless power banks and lithium batteries. This action follows reports banks. The distributor emphasized that the integrated lithium-ion batteries can overheat dangerously during charging, often without any visible external signs of fires damage. Consumers are instructed to stop using and charging the substitution of certified components with unverified cells. SAMR also penalized 131 testing agency violations, resulting devices immediately, store them in fines totaling approximately 2.08 million euros. safe locations away from flammable materials, and contact customer service to arrange for professional disposal.
