Global offshore drilling contract activity

Overview

The offshore drilling sector has seen a series of new contract awards and construction agreements across various regions.

In mid-October, Seadrill Limited secured multiple contracts and extensions for its deepwater drillships. These include an 880-day contract in Indonesia valued at approximately $420 million, an extension for the West Capella in Malaysia through February 2028, and a rig commitment in Angola through January 2030. Additionally, the Sevan Louisiana was awarded a short-term contract in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

By late October, activity expanded in Southeast Asia. Idemitsu Gas Production contracted PV Drilling for an offshore exploration campaign in Vietnam’s Nam Con Son Basin scheduled for 2027. Meanwhile, in Singapore, Keppel’s subsidiary RigCo and Seatrium entered a deal exceeding S$500 million to construct four offshore rigs, including a seventh-generation drillship and a harsh-environment jack-up rig, to meet rising demand driven by energy security needs and an aging global fleet.
