The solo travel sector continues to show significant growth, with the travel operator DERTOUR reporting that solo travelers accounted for 18 percent of all bookings during the winter 2025/26 season, representing nearly one in five trips. Demand for luxury and social solo experiences has highlighted Mediterranean destinations such as Saint-Tropez, Ibiza, and Mykonos, which offer yoga retreats and social beach environments. Major European cities like Paris, Barcelona, and Amsterdam are also catering to this demographic through specialized hotel arrangements and guided cultural tours. Additionally, Austrian cities such as Vienna and Graz have been identified as ideal for solo trips due to their accessible environments and cultural offerings. A study by the online travel agency Opodo, titled ‘Solo Travel 2026’, provides further insight into planning behaviors based on a survey of 9,000 participants across seven countries. The findings indicate that the most common ideal duration for a solo trip is four to seven days, which accounts for 43 percent of respondents. While the global average trip length is 6.1 days, German solo travelers prefer a slightly longer average of 7.1 days. Regarding travel radius, 35 percent of respondents expressed openness to traveling ‘anywhere in the world’. Transportation preferences vary by region; while airplanes are the most preferred method globally at 56 percent, German solo travelers show distinct preferences for cars (46 percent) and trains (39 percent). In Poland, new trends indicate a shift toward cost-saving strategies, with Kiwi.com reporting an 88 percent year-over-year increase in one-way flight ticket sales. Travelers are increasingly using different airlines for outbound and return journeys or utilizing different airports to reduce expenses. Furthermore, agencies like Łączą Nas Podróże are addressing psychological barriers to solo travel, specifically helping travelers, including women, overcome the hesitation caused by a lack of companions through organized group environments.
