A series of fatal workplace accidents has been reported globally, including industrial fatalities in Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. In Argentina, workers died due to a collapsing skylight in Rawson and machinery entrapment in a grain silo in Saladillo. Other reported deaths include a waste collection worker, Jonatan Ocampo García, in Medellín, Colombia, and a 38-year-old contractor at a Sopraval facility in La Calera, Chile. A significant incident occurred in Rome, Italy, where 22-year-old specialist worker Andrea Moretti died after falling approximately 10 meters while installing a new lighting system at the Colosseum. The incident occurred around midnight, and the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, coordinated by prosecutor Antonino Di Maio, has opened a criminal investigation into potential manslaughter. Authorities are examining safety protocols and documentation to determine if regulations were violated. The victim’s body has been transferred to the Sapienza University Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy. Following the tragedy, Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli suspended all construction and maintenance work at the Colosseum until further notice. The Archaeological Park of the Colosseum temporarily closed its second-level sector as a sign of mourning. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and various labor unions, including the CGIL, have expressed condolences and called for a thorough investigation into workplace safety. The incident has also sparked criticism from unions regarding the management of public contracts.
