The Goiânia municipal government has implemented various measures to address public health, safety, and urban order. On September 18, the City Hall demolished an abandoned building in the central district that had been vacant for over ten years. Authorities noted the structure was condemned by Civil Defense and posed risks as a breeding ground for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, as well as a site for criminal activity. Following this, the city intensified inspection operations. Under ‘Operação Reciclagem’, officials embargoed an irregular recycling establishment in Setor Central that lacked environmental licenses and was suspected of receiving stolen goods. Additionally, integrated operations in Setor Serrinha led to fines for a construction company regarding the irregular disposal of concrete and for improper transport of iron structures. Recent actions have expanded these enforcement efforts. The Municipal Secretariat of Efficiency (Sefic) issued a citation to the owner of an unfinished building at the corner of Avenida Araguaia and Rua 2, which has been abandoned for approximately 25 years. Authorities reported the site contributes to urban degradation and serves as a hub for criminal activities, including drug trafficking and theft. The city has scheduled a meeting with the owner to seek an urgent solution and deployed social assistance teams to support individuals using the structure for shelter. Ongoing inspections continue to target environmental and urban compliance, including the planned cleaning of irregular recycling sites to address unsanitary conditions.
