The Golden State Warriors' 2026 offseason and the future of Stephen Curry have centered on roster stability and contract negotiations. While Curry has expressed his intention to finish his career with the franchise, his next contract is complicated by the NBA’s ‘Over-38 Rule’. This provision, designed to prevent salary cap manipulation, limits contract length and structure for older players. Consequently, Curry faces a strategic choice: sign an extension now under tighter limits or wait until he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027, which could allow for a larger three-year maximum contract and provide the Warriors with greater salary cap flexibility. As the team entered its 18th season for Curry, the franchise faced the aftermath of a 37-45 season that resulted in missing the playoffs. The roster continues to manage significant health challenges, including absences from Jimmy Butler III and Kristaps Porzingis. On October 18, Curry suffered a right ankle sprain during a non-contact play at an open practice. While initial concerns focused on his knee, head coach Steve Kerr clarified that the injury was a minor ankle tweak. Following a training room evaluation, Kerr stated that Curry is “fine.” After completing a full practice on Monday, Curry is expected to play in the team’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers this Wednesday. Despite the injury scare, the team remains optimistic about Curry’s availability. However, the Warriors' roster depth is being tested as they also manage injuries to Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Charles Bassey, alongside the existing absences of Butler III and Porzingis.
