Google is testing several interface redesigns and navigation enhancements within the Chrome Canary environment. Initial testing focused on a new horizontal scrolling feature for the tab bar, intended to help users manage large numbers of open tabs by allowing fluid movement across the tab strip via a mouse wheel or arrows. Subsequent updates under the “WebUI Refresh 2026” or “GlowUp” project involve more extensive changes to the browser structure. These include a reorganized menu system with options grouped into rounded blocks, such as “Your Chrome” and “Tools and Actions.” Other features under testing include a search bar within the three-dot and settings menus to locate commands or bookmarks, new animated navigation buttons, and a potential reorganization of extensions into a “Manage Skills” submenu. Recent testing in Chrome Canary has highlighted a significant overhaul of the three-dot menu. This update introduces a search bar at the top of the menu to help users quickly locate settings, bookmarks, and browsing history. To replace cluttered submenus, the redesign uses distinct, color-coded blocks and presents common functions, such as New Tab, New Window, and Incognito mode, as prominent buttons at the top. Additional interface adjustments include the addition of a permanent scrollbar, the removal of automatic hover-scroll arrows, and the pinning of both the search bar and the menu footer to ensure they remain visible during navigation. No official release date for these features has been announced.
