Google has announced a multi-year partnership with Flo Health to integrate period-tracking data with Google Health and AI coaching services. This collaboration, set to begin in early 2027, aims to facilitate joint research into medical areas such as pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and endometriosis, while potentially developing co-branded products combining Flo’s algorithms with Google’s wearable hardware. In conjunction with these health initiatives, Google unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a lightweight fitness tracker designed to sit between simple fitness bands and advanced smartwatches. The device features a 1.34-inch AMOLED touchscreen, which offers a 46% larger viewing area than previous Fitbit models, and includes an always-on display for real-time statistics. The tracker integrates Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini AI, to provide insights into heart rate, sleep, and step counts. counts, as well as insulin resistance trends. It also supports features such as Google Maps navigation, media controls, and notifications for calls and messages. Despite these advancements, the Fitbit Edge lacks an NFC chip, meaning it does not support contactless payments. Google stated this decision was based on internal data showing that “less than 1% of Fitbit Charge 6 users utilized mobile payment modes.” Additionally, the device does not currently support respiratory quality analysis during sleep. The product is expected to launch on October 27, with pricing set at approximately $180 or £159.99.
