Google’s Android 17 rollout continued through August 2026. On 5 August, Google began distributing the August 2026 security patch to the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9 series, 9a, and Pixel 10 lines. This update addressed gaming app crashes, GPU performance, and touch-panel unresponsiveness. Older devices, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, and 7a, were excluded from this specific build. In parallel, Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 to address audio static, NFC regressions, fingerprint-authentication failures, and Pixel Tablet speaker dock connection issues. While QPR2 Beta 2 was made available for Pixel 6a and newer devices, support for the original Pixel 6 and 6 Pro was dropped. By mid-August, Google released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 for Pixel devices ranging from the 6a to the 10 series, including the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold. This update introduced expanded Dynamic Color integration, Gaussian-style blur effects, and a dedicated editor for customizing the Quick Settings panel. Security enhancements included a native App Lock feature, restrictions on the sendUssdRequest() API to prevent call-forwarding fraud, and a SIM security timeline to log modem-detected threats like IMSI/IMEI interception. On 19 August, Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9, which serves as a stability-focused polishing phase and marks the final beta for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Later in the month, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 was released, introducing a Notification Intelligence menu powered by AI, a revamped APK installation process, and a Voice Broadcast tile. This update also addressed thermal management issues and added data logging for the Private Compute Core to the Privacy Dashboard. On 31 August, Google released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4, emphasizing platform stability through system refinement and bug fixes rather than major feature overhauls.
