Following the August 2026 rollout of Android 17, Google has moved through several beta phases to address emerging software challenges. In late August, Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9, which served as a stability-focused polishing phase and marked the final beta version for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. By late August, the QPR2 Beta 4 update focused on system refinement, addressing overheating, unexpected reboots, Bluetooth audio routing, and battery charging delays. In September, Google issued an unscheduled software update for the Pixel 11 series to address critical bugs and a system component vulnerability that could allow remote code execution. By October 2026, new issues surfaced across the Pixel lineup. Users of the Pixel 10 series reported animation bugs in the QPR1 update, while Pixel 11 series users faced connectivity issues with the ‘Better Together’ system. Google responded with the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 update, addressing battery drain from the ‘Flip to Shh’ feature and HTTPS download failures. This was followed by the QPR2 Beta 7.1 update, which targeted severe UI stuttering and freezes caused by memory pressure and page-reclaim thrashing, though it required Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners to potentially re-enroll Face Unlock. In late October, Google progressed through the QPR3 beta cycle. QPR3 Beta 2, released for devices from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 11 series, introduced security measures to prevent unauthorized disabling of connectivity by allowing users to lock Quick Settings tiles. It also addressed intermittent crashes, unexpected shutdowns during video calls, and high standby battery drain. Subsequently, QPR3 Beta 3 was released, addressing 26 bugs including black inner displays on foldables, screen flickering, random power cycles, and Wi-Fi authentication failures on WPA-Enterprise networks. This update also reintroduced native app lock and the lock screen blur effect.
