Rockstar Games has revealed several gameplay mechanics for Grand Theft Auto VI. The studio confirmed a dynamic physical transformation system for the protagonists, Jason and Lucia, where lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise, and fatigue will cause visible changes to their bodies and faces. Additionally, the game will feature a an expanded ‘Criminal Profile system’ that tracks player behavior. According to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, this system evaluates overt crimes and subtle behaviors to influence how non-player characters interact with the protagonists. New details from a closed-door presentation suggest the profile tracks criminal approaches across four levels: Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho. Unlike traditional morality systems, this mechanic focuses on how crimes are conducted rather than judging character. The profile is expected to track Jason and Lucia separately; if a player engages in extreme or unnecessary violence, the profile icon may ‘shatter,’ causing the game to cease grading behavior for the rest of the playthrough. The announcement also detailed an expanded arsenal and a new equipment interface, which includes specific weaponry like the Duke 556 assault rifle and a dedicated eight-slot system for managing weapons and tools. Further emphasizing realism, Rob Nelson indicated that vehicles will require refueling, though he noted the process is designed to be ‘pretty fast’ to avoid player frustration.
