Gravina in Puglia is pursuing various cultural and institutional initiatives to promote its local identity and regional standing. The city is advancing its bid to become the Puglia Capital of Culture for 2027 through the ‘Fioriture’ project. This initiative utilizes a participatory methodology, involving citizens, associations, and experts in workshops to co-design the city’s future cultural program. Simultaneously, the municipality is working to strengthen international connections through the “Visit Gravina” ‘Visit Gravina’ initiative and the EU-cofinanced B.R.I.C.I.V.E. (“Bridging (‘Bridging Cultures and Identities”) Identities’) project. This twinning initiative with Leskovac, Serbia, focuses on cultural, educational, and musical exchanges to foster community relationships and active citizenship. In late September 2026, the B.R.I.C.I.V.E. project continued with a delegation from Leskovac visiting Gravina to engage in exchanges focused on shared European values and opportunities for young people. Further developments regarding the 2027 cultural capital bid include the presentation of ‘Fioriture’ as a ‘creative marathon’. This phase involves the acquisition of the Mastrogiacomo theater, the utilization of the Padre Eterno archaeological area, and the recovery of the former Santa Maria convent. The project also incorporates artistic elements, such as transforming local soundscapes into music by artist Max Casacci. These efforts follow Gravina's selection as one of ten Italian cities for national cultural capital consideration.
