Grayscale Investments has expanded its suite of digital asset offerings through new partnerships and operational changes. The company partnered with the Republic platform to launch three private investment products targeting decentralized finance, decentralized AI, and data networks, with a minimum entry of $2,500 for eligible investors. Additionally, Grayscale transitioned ten of its exchange-traded products (ETPs) to an in-kind investing model. This allows authorized participants to exchange digital assets directly for fund shares, moving away from a cash-only model and aligning these products with the operational structure of conventional commodity ETPs. The affected products include trusts and ETFs linked to assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Dogecoin. This in-kind mechanism allows eligible investors to swap digital assets directly for fund shares, bypassing the requirement to sell cryptocurrency for cash. Grayscale noted that this move aims to reduce trading costs and slippage while addressing cybersecurity threats associated with self-custody and DeFi exploits, suggesting that regulated custody provides a more secure management method. The rollout includes products such as the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, Solana Staking ETF, and XRP Trust ETF. The company also indicated that the in-kind structure may offer tax advantages by potentially avoiding immediate capital gains recognition under specific trust structures. Minimum investment thresholds for these products vary, ranging from approximately $80,300 for Solana to over $364,800 for the Bitcoin Mini Trust.
