Great Blue Hole underwater exploration

Overview

Exploration efforts in the Great Blue Hole in Belize have focused on documenting the sinkhole’s unique geological and biological features. Initial reports detailed a dive from Long Caye to the southern side of the hole, where divers explored a cavern approximately 40 meters deep containing large stalactites and stalagmites. Subsequent reports confirmed that Ray Tiller of Fintastic Films completed an expedition to the site, which is approximately 300 meters wide and 120 meters deep. The expedition, organized with the Belize Pro Dive Center, captured footage of rare underwater scenery and large stalactite formations. In addition to the sinkhole, the mission included dives at nearby coral reefs and Half Moon Caye, documenting marine life such as sharks, rays, and sea turtles.
