The Greco-Roman wrestling World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, have progressed through the semifinal stages, with several athletes securing spots in their respective weight class finals. In the under 77 kg category, Alexandrin Guțu qualified for the senior final after four consecutive victories, including a 5:0 semifinal win against Bulgaria’s Stoian Stoicev Kubatov. Guțu ultimately secured the silver medal after losing 3-8 to Azerbaijan’s Sanan Suleymanov in the final. Moldova also saw success from Mihail Bradu, who won a bronze medal in the 82 kg category. After a quarterfinal loss to Iran’s Gholamreza Javad Farokhisenjani, Bradu advanced through the repechage by defeating Hungary’s Zoltan Levai and secured bronze by defeating Russia’s Gamzat Gadzhiev. In other weight classes, Hungarian wrestlers István Váncza and Dárius Vitek also reached the finals. Vitek advanced in the 130 kg category following a 5-0 victory over Belarus’s Pavel Hlincsuk, setting up a matchup against Iran’s Fardin Hedayati. Váncza reached his first career final in the 72 kg category after overcoming a 1-3 deficit against Georgia’s Juri Lomadze following a disputed refereeing decision. Váncza is scheduled to compete against Iran’s Szejed Szorabi for the gold medal.
