Greece is expanding its preventative healthcare initiatives through the ‘Prolamvano’ program, which provides free skin cancer screenings nationwide. Funded by the NSRF (ESPA), the initiative aims to integrate prevention into the core of the National Health System. To ensure accessibility, initial screenings are being conducted through the Primary Healthcare network. The program utilizes modern technologies, including telemedicine, specialized equipment, and artificial intelligence, to support healthcare professionals in early detection. Special emphasis is placed on high-risk groups such as farmers, fishermen, outdoor workers, and residents of remote or island regions. When suspicious findings are identified, specialized Reference Centers manage the referral process for further examination or treatment. This effort leverages a network of health centers, mobile health teams, and specialized clinics within university and general hospitals. Complementing these efforts, the Ministry continues to deploy Mobile Health Teams (KOMY) to remote areas. These teams perform specialized examinations—including abdominal and thyroid ultrasounds, spirometry, electrocardiograms, and blood tests—under the supervision of specialists from major hospitals. Recent data indicates that these Mobile Health Teams have reached over 70,000 citizens, with approximately 15,114 individuals receiving home-based care. ~~Recent regional data from Messenia highlights~~ In the ~~program's impact, where 90,824 free preventive screenings were conducted targeting breast cancer, cervical cancer,~~ Municipality of Messinia, outreach continues through October, with scheduled visits to Hatzi, Kokkinou, Mathia, Petritsi, and ~~cardiovascular diseases.~~ Pelekanada. These efforts resulted in 2,328 early findings allowing for immediate therapeutic intervention. Specifically, 1,153 breast cancer cases, 977 cervical cancer cases, and 198 cardiovascular cases were identified. Periklis Mantas, Member of Parliament for Messenia, noted that such organized access serves as units, operated by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), offer a ~~“vital investment in public health and quality~~ range of ~~life.”~~ services including blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol and glucose testing, and health counseling. Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis recently highlighted the program’s capabilities, noting its ability to utilize telemedicine connections to link mobile units with health centers. For citizens with severe mobility issues, home visits remain available via a dedicated telephone line.
