Greece has launched its Next Generation 112 (NG112) digital emergency system, a project implemented by the Information Society for the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection with a budget of 17.5 million euros. The transition from traditional voice calls includes the introduction of the e112 mobile application, which features video calls, real-time text (RTT) messaging, and a ‘Silent Button’ for users unable to speak. The system utilizes GPS and AML (SMS/HTTPS) for high-accuracy geolocation and incorporates Next Generation eCall to automatically transmit vehicle collision data during accidents. These upgrades are intended to improve universal accessibility, specifically for persons with disabilities. In addition to mobile and vehicle enhancements, the system provides a unified operational view for emergency responders through the new ENGAGE112 software.
