Greece was named the world’s best country for 2026 by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, earning a score of 98.14 out of 100. The ranking placed Greece ahead of other destinations such as Japan, Italy, Türkiye, and Portugal. The recognition highlighted the appeal of various Greek islands, including Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Paros, Hydra, Ios, and Tinos. Athens was also noted for its combination of historical significance and contemporary cultural activity. Additionally, the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki was ranked 7th among Greece’s top 10 resorts. Further accolades from the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards identified Hydra as the top island in Europe for 2026, scoring 98.12 and narrowly beating Italy’s Sardinia. Greece showed a dominant presence in the European island rankings, with seven islands appearing in the top 20—more than Spain, Italy, or France. Other highly ranked Greek islands include Naxos (3rd), Sifnos (6th), and Paros (9th), followed by Santorini (16th), Mykonos (18th), and Crete (20th). The publication noted Hydra’s unique character and its connection to the late Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen.
