Greek customs officials from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) conducted inspections at two land several border crossings, resulting in the seizure of illegal refrigerant. At the Doirani border crossing from North Macedonia, authorities discovered 296 bottles of R134a liquid hidden in a partition within a shipping container, with estimated evaded taxes of 55,000 euros. At the KipĂ­ border crossing from Turkey, officers seized 1,000 bottles of R404A refrigerant concealed under gypsum plaster boards in a Turkish-registered truck. The seized goods at this location are valued at 884,400 euros, with evaded customs and taxes estimated at approximately 283,539 euros. A separate incident occurred in Evros, where officials discovered approximately 10 tons of illegal freon in a Turkish-origin truck destined for France. The estimated value of the product in this instance is 900,000 euros. The AADE noted that the import of these liquids into the EU is prohibited and legal proceedings are underway.
