As the Thessaloniki International Fair approaches, the Greek government has detailed specific components of its long-term economic roadmap through 2030. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce a 1.7 billion euro support package designed to reduce tax burdens and increase disposable income for families, retirees, and small businesses. A significant pillar of the government’s fiscal strategy includes the early repayment of 12.84 billion euros in national debt, a move projected to save 370 million euros annually in interest payments. In the energy sector, the administration is moving forward with a 1 billion euro “energy escape clause” for the 2026–2028 period, prioritizing renewable energy storage, energy efficiency, and reforms in water management and urban planning. Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis has further clarified that the September interventions will focus on three main pillars: income support, addressing private debt, and attracting investment. For the self-employed, the government is considering tax relief and reduced social security contributions for tax-compliant individuals, while farmers may benefit from permanent tax reductions and an upgraded subsidy mechanism. To address private debt, a new mechanism is scheduled for activation on September 21 to protect primary residences through an out-of-court process. Political tensions regarding the fair’s schedule remain high. Alexis Tsipras and the Hellenic Left Coalition (ELAS) have maintained their plan to present their economic program on September 2, ahead of the Prime Minister. Government officials continue to criticize this timing, characterizing it as an attempt to break political tradition and undermine the Prime Minister’s presence at the event.
