In On 27 July 2026 a legislative amendment attached to an unrelated bill gave Greece’s Health Minister authority Adonis Georgiadis issued decree KAD 42554 to name an interim governing board, install a temporary Supreme Disciplinary Council and an audit governing committee for the Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS). The move was criticised by the PIS, the Coordinating Committee of the Assembly of Presidents of Greek Bar Associations, opposition parties and European medical bodies as a breach of professional autonomy. On 25 July Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced, under article 67 of Law 5322/2026, that a temporary governing committee would be appointed on 27 July to organise elections and install a new legal administration for the PIS. The minister issued decree KAD 42554, appointing psychiatrist (ΠΙΣ). Psychiatrist Matina Pagoni, former president of the Athens‑Piraeus Hospital Doctors’ Union of Athens‑Piraeus, as Union, was named interim president.
