Greek authorities launched an investigation into an arson incident in the pine forests of Ano Vrilissia, near Penteli, after a video surfaced showing three minors setting fire to dense vegetation. The incident occurred during a period of high fire risk in the Attica region and was reportedly motivated by a social media “challenge.” Investigators from Footage of the incident, which was broadcast by ANT1, was captured by a passing driver and shows the minors lighting a fire in a pine-covered area before attempting to contain the flames. Following a report to the 112 emergency line, the Fire Service and the Arson Crimes Directorate (DAEE) subsequently identified the individuals as 13-year-old minors. While the children have reportedly apologized for their actions, legal proceedings for attempted arson are being initiated against them.
