The Greek Left Coalition (EL.A.S.) has initiated a series of organizational expansions to strengthen its national presence. Initially, the Political Committee approved the formation of an Organizational Office and appointed Regional Coordinators to manage development at local and regional levels. Alexis Tsipras stated the goal was to maintain ‘constant communication with society’ to disseminate the coalition’s program. To implement this, the movement established Coordinating Committees across 59 electoral regions, appointing 596 officials to serve as its organizational backbone. These committees are tasked with establishing local organizations in every municipality and municipal unit, organizing political actions, registering members, and promoting the party’s economic campaign. To maintain a distinction between organizational duties and electoral activities, these officials are designated not to serve as candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections. As part of its outreach, Alexis Tsipras is scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EEA) on September 28, 2026, to address challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises, such as inflation, energy costs, taxation, and bureaucracy. The coalition is now transitioning from its foundational phase toward a regional organizational strategy designed to establish a permanent presence in neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and hospitals. To support this, Party Secretary Miltos Chatzigiannakis is overseeing the activation of municipal networks, while Alexis Tsipras is scheduled to conduct regional tours starting in mid-October. Additionally, mid-October to bolster the grassroots movement. Parallel to this local expansion, the party is launching ‘New Generation ELAS’, a youth-focused structure for members up to 35 years of age. Led by Dimitris Paterelis and Panos Lampryni-Stachtos, this the initiative will appoint youth officers within the 59 Coordinating Committees and designate approximately 500 sectoral officials to manage 24 thematic areas. As the coalition prepares for the 2027 elections, Tsipras is intensifying public outreach through nationwide tours, including visits to the Athens Chamber of Professionals to engage with small and medium-sized businesses and regional visits to areas such as Ilia to strengthen penetration in rural provinces. Additionally, the movement is seeking to bolster its parliamentary presence, with reports indicating potential defections from independent MPs, such as Ilia MP Dionysis Kalamatianos. The party also plans to restructure its communication department by recruiting more experienced political and parliamentary figures.
