Following municipal reviews and elections in mid-2026, focus has shifted to the Attica region under Governor Nikos Hardalias. To enhance transparency, Hardalias launched ‘Project Observatory’, a digital tool designed to provide 24-hour, real-time tracking of the region’s 352 metropolitan projects through 2028. This system, intended to reduce bureaucracy and improve public trust, will allow citizens to monitor project status starting in the first half of 2027. On 8 August, Hardalias implemented a ban on wind turbines and industrial renewable energy installations in protected, reforestable, or fire-damaged zones of western Attica, following wildfires that destroyed over 111,000 stremmata. He emphasized that affected forests and mountains are not ‘empty’ space on a map and stated that no Environmental Impact Assessments for such energy projects will be approved in these sensitive areas during his tenure. To support restoration and flood prevention, the region will utilize Green Fund resources. Alongside this, Hardalias restructured the regional administration, appointing Christos Theodoropoulos as Vice Governor for Institutions, Transparency, and e-Governance, and Lefteris Kosmopoulos as Vice Governor for Metropolitan Infrastructure and Networks. By 14 August, Hardalias presented a €2.6 billion infrastructure program where 58.81% of commitments are in the implementation phase. The program prioritizes flood protection, with 67.19% of 64 planned anti-flood projects in progress or completed. ~~Additionally,~~ In September, the ~~region is expanding municipal services;~~ administration expanded its focus on municipal services and institutional partnerships. On 10 September, Hardalias allocated €15.54 million for the construction and upgrading of sports infrastructure across ten municipalities, including Agia Varvara, Egaleo, and Kallithea, as part of the 2026–2030 Regional Development Program. On 11 September, Hardalias highlighted a strategic partnership with the European Organization of Public Law (EPLO), noting that 75% of their programmatic agreement's physical objectives have been implemented, including €1.5 million for building upgrades.
