The Greek Parliament has experienced internal friction involving PASOK MP Paris Koukoulopoulos. Initially, Koukoulopoulos, acting as the presiding officer for a session, was involved in a heated confrontation with Zoi Konstantopoulou of Plefsi Eleftherias during the election of a Fifth Vice-President. Konstantopoulou alleged “underground cooperation” between PASOK and the governing New Democracy party and accused the chair of attempting to block a female candidate. Following these events, Koukoulopoulos, now serving as Vice President of the Parliament, has shifted focus to legislative inquiries regarding energy security. He submitted an urgent question to the Ministry of Environment and Energy concerning district heating in Kozani and Ptolemaida. Koukoulopoulos criticized the government for rejecting an amendment to use Greek lignite to provide stable, affordable heating, warning that current policies may cause insecurity and increased costs for local residents. Parliamentary tensions have since escalated into further confrontations involving Zoi Konstantopoulou, PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, and Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos. Konstantopoulou questioned Androulakis’s effectiveness as an opposition leader following his appearance at a basketball game with Margaritis Schinas; Androulakis dismissed the criticism, stating his presence was as a fan and that his seating was coincidental. Furthermore, Konstantopoulou made remarks regarding the son of Minister Theodorikakos, leading to a sharp rebuke. Theodorikakos condemned the targeting of family members, describing such actions as a ‘nazist choice’ and asserting that even the mafia does not engage in such behavior. In a recent escalation, Konstantopoulou clashed with Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis over a meeting involving New Democracy MPs and Israeli officials. Konstantopoulou characterized the gathering as a “secret meeting” and labeled Georgiadis a “fascist” and a “denier of the Holocaust.” Georgiadis rejected the claims, describing the accusations as coming from a “sick mind” and calling Konstantopoulou a “traitor” for her stance on Greece-Israel relations.
