Legal opposition has intensified regarding the regulation of non-state institutions. The Piraeus Bar Association has announced plans to file a legal challenge with the Council of State to annul the licensing and operational regulatory acts of all non-state law schools. The Association criticized the National Authority for Higher Education for a lack of transparency in committee formation and the exclusion of legal profession representatives. They argue that higher education should not be treated as a ‘commercial commodity’ and are calling for strict academic quality guarantees and a maximum annual cap on student admissions to protect the dignity of the legal profession. Further legal action has been taken by Panos Lazaratos, a professor and lawyer, who filed a formal complaint with the Athens Misdemeanor Prosecutor's Office.
