Greece is implementing regulatory changes to its university admission processes and competitive examination structures. In August 2026, Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou announced new requirements for degree holders seeking admission via competitive exams. Starting with the 2026-2027 academic year, candidates must achieve a minimum total score of 30 points and at least 10 points in every individual subject. Under this new framework, vacant positions cannot be filled by students who meet the total score threshold but fail to reach the 10-point minimum in any single subject. By September 2026, further reforms were announced regarding the structure of the 2027 Panhellenic Exams. A new ministerial decision will reorganize the four scientific fields to expand academic and career options. Notable changes include broadening the scientific fields required for entry into Military Schools—such as the Evelpidon Military Academy and the Air Force Academy—and updating the 3rd Scientific Field to include all Physics departments nationwide. On September 11, 2026, the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports released the official schedule for the 2027 Panhellenic Examinations. For students in General Lyceums (GEL), exams are set to run from May 28 to June 4, 2027, beginning with Modern Greek Language and Literature. For Vocational Lyceum (EPAL) candidates, examinations will commence on May 29, 2027, with specialized subjects and practical tests for Physical Education and Sports Science (TEFAA) departments continuing through late June.
