On 2 August 2026 two Bell AB‑214 ST firefighting helicopters collided near Psatha in western Attica while combating battling a wildfire that had started ignited on 31 July in Boeotia. The lower‑flying aircraft crashed, killing the Danish pilot and a Greek fire‑coordination officer; the British pilot Andrew Hachinson and a Greek crew member survived, the former after an emergency autorotation landing that left him with spinal injuries requiring surgery. Greek authorities sealed the site, deployed drones, forensic experts and a police anti‑arson unit, and identified released photographs and video of the wreckage. A technical report confirmed a short‑circuit in a private wind‑farm power line as the fire’s ignition source. All Bell helicopters were temporarily withdrawn pending safety reviews; reviews, while Canadair, Erickson and Chinook aircraft have taken took over aerial drops.
