Preparations for the GREEN×EXPO 2027, the International Horticultural Expo scheduled for March 19 to September 26, 2027, in Yokohama, Japan, continue to expand through new corporate partnerships and retail initiatives. Japan Airlines (JAL) has joined as a Gold Partner. Beginning in November 2026, JAL will operate aircraft with nature-inspired liveries and promote the expo via in-flight media. The airline will also allow passengers to exchange miles for event tickets and will support sustainability efforts, such as converting waste cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). JAL will also provide hospitality and accessibility training to event staff. Retail engagement is increasing through the launch of official pop-up stores starting in September 2026. Located at Yamashita Park in Yokohama, as well as in Wakayama and Yokkaichi via Kintetsu Department Stores, these locations will sell licensed merchandise to build brand awareness. In September 2026, promotional efforts expanded to include transportation and character collaborations. JR East announced the launch of specially wrapped Shinkansen trains, featuring the official mascot ‘Tunk-Tunk’, to operate on several lines including the Tohoku/Hokkaido and Joetsu/Hokuriku routes starting September 16. Additionally, new merchandise featuring collaborations between ‘Tunk-Tunk’ and the Yokohama character ‘Garden Bear’ was scheduled for release on September 5, 2026, at a pop-up store during the ‘Autumn Satoyama Garden Festa 2026’ in Yokohama. In August 2026, the GREEN×EXPO Association signed a sustainability partnership with the professional basketball club Yokohama Excellence. Running through December 31, 2027, the agreement focuses on environmental education and joint promotional activities. Technological collaborations are also advancing. Agri-oh and Nara Construction will exhibit a closed-loop aquaponics system at the Yokohama City exhibition site within the Urban GX Village. This system integrates hydroponic cultivation with aquaculture to create a resource-circulating model where fish waste is converted into nutrients for plants. ~~The companies are also exploring the use of this technology as green infrastructure and developing environmental education programs in collaboration with Tokyo City University.~~
