Approximately 200 members of the Croatian Army’s 2nd Mechanized Battalion ‘Gromovi’ conducted a 15-kilometer march from the ‘Pukovnik Predrag Matanović’ barracks in Petrinja to the memorial in Novi Farkašić. The march, performed in full military gear and weaponry, commemorated the 35th anniversary of the defense of Novi Farkašić during the 1991 Croatian War of Independence. Major Mirko Muhek, the battalion commander, noted that the defense of the area was historically significant because it prevented enemy advances toward Zagreb and secured territory that later served as a foundation for Operation Storm. The commemoration included veterans and current soldiers lighting candles at the memorial for fallen defenders. In addition to the Novi Farkašić ceremonies, other commemorations were held across Croatia to mark historical anniversaries. These included ceremonies for the formation of the 132nd Brigade in Našice, as well as events in Lipik and Pakračka Vinogradi to honor civilians lost during the 1991 war.
