In Polish speedway, contract negotiations between rider Grzegorz Zengota and Unia Leszno have failed. Following unsuccessful attempts to leverage a shortage of Polish riders for a pay increase, club official Józef Dworakowski ended discussions, stating there was no basis for further negotiation. Zengota has since announced he will leave Fogo Unia Leszno after the 2026 season. The departure has triggered controversy among supporters of Stelmet Falubaz Zielona Góra. In response to social media criticism, Zengota’s brother, Artur, defended the rider, addressing past contract disputes, his recovery from a serious injury, and clarifying his involvement as a passenger in a taxi during a fatal accident involving a fan. Speaking on Canal+, Zengota expressed disappointment regarding the negotiation process, describing the decision to leave as “one of the hardest of his life.” He stated that while financial terms are often negotiable, he received no communication or counteroffers from club management. Zengota noted that despite waiting for several weeks and seeing club representatives at training sessions, the topic was avoided, leading him to believe the club was seeking alternative solutions without informing him. He stated he chose to leave to protect his own interests and intends to return to his former club.
