Nigerian banks dominate 2026 Euromoney awards

In July 2026 Nigeria’s banking sector earned a slew of prestigious recognitions. GTBank was named Best Overall Performing Bank by The Banker’s Top 1000 World Banks on 14 July and won Best Digital Bank at the Euromoney Awards two days later. Zenith Bank secured Africa’s Best Bank and Nigeria’s Best Bank titles on 16 July, while Access Bank captured 16 Euromoney honours on 20 July covering customer experience, sustainable finance, SME and digital banking, corporate responsibility and market leadership. Additional winners included Access Bank Ghana (Best Bank for SMEs and Consumer Lending), United Bank for Africa (Best Retail Bank and Best ESG Bank), and Wema Bank (Best Digital Bank for Consumers). The awards season continued later in the month. On 26 July Stanbic IBTC, part of the Standard Bank Group, won four Euromoney categories – Best Bank for Sustainable Finance, Consumer Lending, Mortgages/Home Loans and Securities Services – highlighting its focus on reliable, responsible solutions. The bank reported assets of ₦8.62 trillion and sustainable loans of ₦277.3 billion for 2025. Iron Capital was also recognised as Nigeria’s Best Investment Bank for Financing Solutions, noting its role in structuring over N3.11 trillion of capital for infrastructure across Africa. These recognitions underscore Extending the sector’s emphasis Group’s success beyond Nigeria, Access Bank Botswana received Botswana’s Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility award on digital innovation, sustainability 30 July. The accolade praised its community‑focused programmes—from financial‑literacy campaigns to health and financing environmental initiatives—and underscored the broader regional impact of growth. the Access Bank Group’s commitment to sustainable development.
