Guayaquil is observing several historical milestones in October, including its 206th anniversary of independence and the 130th anniversary of the Great Fire of Guayaquil. During the commemorations, President Daniel Noboa announced a historic investment exceeding 1,000 million dollars to stimulate commerce, tourism, and economic growth. This funding targets infrastructure projects such as the Quinto Puente and a new park in Monte Sinaí. In his address, the President also emphasized the necessity of security and institutional strength to combat organized crime. Parallel to these economic measures, the city is pursuing urban transformation efforts, including replacing palm trees with native species like robles and guayacanes to enhance biodiversity and shade. On October 9, civic ceremonies marked the anniversary. At a solemn session in the Municipal Palace led by acting mayor Tatiana Coronel, ten awards were presented to individuals and institutions for contributions to public service, human rights, entrepreneurship, and business development. Honorees included the Comité Permanente por la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos, businessman Morice Dassum Aivas, Arcos Dorados Ecuador director Gina Castagneto, the retail company Pycca, and the Universidad Tecnológica Empresarial de Guayaquil (UTEG). During this session, Coronel defended her administration’s performance and announced the opening of a new community dining hall in Monte Sinaí, noting that this is the first of 22 planned dining halls for the area. She also highlighted improvements in public services, stating the municipal health network has expanded from 49 to 55 units, providing over 2.7 million medical consultations. Additional tributes were held by the Guayas Governor's Office. In a ceremony titled ‘Guayaquil, Voz de Libertad’, led by Governor José Ignacio Arévalo Santana, various entities were recognized, including the Salesiana Cristóbal Colón school, the Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador's music band, and Clínica Guayaquil.
