In early September, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) detained a 49-year-old man suspected of causing multiple forest fires in the Águeda municipality. It was revealed that the suspect had been previously detained approximately 15 days prior and was under court-ordered measures that included mandatory alcohol dependency treatment and periodic appearances. Authorities believe the new ignition, which occurred near several residences, may be connected to the same patterns of compulsive behavior and alcoholism. Recent reports confirm the suspect remains linked to several other ignitions recorded throughout the year. Investigations continue as authorities monitor the suspect's connection to multiple fire incidents in the region.
