ArenaNet has begun releasing details regarding the upcoming Guild Wars 3. Initial information revealed that the game will launch with four playable species: Humans, Asura, the newly introduced Kodan, and a secret fourth race with ties to the ancient kingdom of Orr. This announcement initially caused fan disappointment as some expected races, such as the Sylvari or Charr, were not included in the launch lineup. Subsequent updates have focused on the game’s lore and setting, which takes place approximately 1,000 years before previous entries during the golden age of Orr. New details regarding the Asura species indicate they will feature distinct visual designs—described as being ‘slightly larger, somewhat rougher, and more fur-covered’—to reflect their life on the surface. The narrative will follow Asura explorers, such as the engineer Zouelle, who were drawn to the region by its magical properties. Recent developments clarify that players will act as ‘Vaelwächter’ (Vael Guardians) within a more primitive version of Tyria. The developers have reworked existing races to suit this era: Asura are presented as progressive explorers rather than a magitech-focused civilization, while Kodan serve as wise environmental guardians. Humans are depicted as a younger, central race within Orr. Community speculation regarding the mysterious fourth race has intensified, with prominent theories suggesting the return of the Sidhe—nature-connected, fairy-like beings Sidhe. At Gamescom 2026, ArenaNet provided an initial gameplay look via a live demonstration and Q&A session. Confirmed classes include Warrior, Ranger, and Necromancer. The game’s design marks a shift from the unreleased Guild Wars: Utopia campaign. Wars 2; instead of massive scale battles, the title will feature a more limited number of players per area to allow players to experience characters ‘more as individual heroes’ while still encountering others in the open world.
