Guinean authorities have initiated several high level personnel changes across the government and military sectors. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Djenabou Touré, suspended 22 administrative officials in the Siguiri region, including the acting governor and acting prefect. Specifically, the suspension of the interim regional governor, Colonel Fayimba Mara, along with four prefects and 17 sub-prefects, was announced prefect, on October 30, 2026. The suspended officials include Mariam 2 Camara of Doko, Aliou Camara of Dialakoro, Mohamed Lamine Koïta of Kintinian, and Sory Camara of Siguirini. To maintain public services, the ministry appointed the Secretary General of the Siguiri prefecture to manage regional affairs, while municipal secretaries and deputy sub-prefects will handle local responsibilities. The ministerial decree noted that any findings of criminal activity involving these officials will be referred to judicial authorities for potential prosecution. On November 3, 2026, President Mamadi Doumbouya issued a decree dismissing these 22 territorial administrators, including both civilian and military personnel, from the Siguiri administrative region. This dismissal follows allegations of involvement in illegal gold mining activities. Authorities have accused the officials of promoting artisanal and semi-artisanal gold mining at the expense of the environment, causing the destruction of arable land and the degradation of water resources, flora, and fauna. This crackdown follows the recent inauguration of the country’s first gold refinery. In a related administrative move on November 3, Minister Camara Djénabou Touré dismissed 479 district and neighborhood presidents in the Siguiri region. These local leaders are allegedly involved in facilitating clandestine gold mining and the irregular settlement of foreign nationals. Authorities have indicated that legal proceedings may follow for those found to have actively facilitated illegal activities. Concurrently, President Mamadi Doumbouya and Defense Minister Ibrahima Kalil Condé announced the dismissal of 39 military and gendarmerie personnel for desertion. These dismissals affected members of the army, navy, and national gendarmerie across regions including Conakry, Kindia, Kankan, and Labé. Additionally, President Doumbouya appointed 17 officials to various roles within the Ministry of Sanitation, Hydraulics, and Hydrocarbons.
