The arrest of Axel Alfredo Cárdenas Rodríguez, identified as the second-in-command of the “Los Ciclones” faction of the Gulf Cartel, triggered widespread violence across Tamaulipas. Criminal groups responded with “narcobloqueos,” using hijacked vehicles and buses to block highways. These blockades, which included the burning of over 70 vehicles, led to at least six deaths. Five fatalities resulted from traffic accidents where drivers struck burning vehicles. Near Ejido Soliseño, a Kia collided with a burned bus, killing Priscila González López, Graciela López Silva, Miguel Chávez Ruelas, and Marisol López Silva. A two-year-old boy, Liam, survived the crash with serious injuries. A seven-year-old girl, identified as Aranza Adailini, was killed by a gunshot wound while traveling in the rural area of Ejido Las Rusias. The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office is investigating whether a State Guard helicopter was involved. Prosecutor Jesús Eduardo Govea Orozco confirmed that ballistic evidence indicates the projectile, potentially a 7.62 caliber round, followed a downward trajectory and struck the child's head after passing through her vehicle. The victim's mother, who was also wounded in the leg, reported seeing a helicopter overflying the area shortly before the shooting. Investigators are reviewing flight logs and aircraft records from security operations to determine if an official unit was responsible. Humberto Prieto Herrera, President of the Governing Board of the Tamaulipas Congress, stated that the State Secretary of Public Security may be summoned to testify before the legislature to provide an official explanation. Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya has stated there will be “no cover-ups” as investigations proceed.
