A massive landslide and glacier burst at the Gyirong (Jilong) Port near the China-Nepal border on August 26 has caused significant casualties and left hundreds missing. The China Meteorological Administration is providing daily high-resolution forecasts and satellite imagery to Nepalese authorities. While Chinese leadership has pledged assistance for search, medical, and resettlement efforts, observers have raised concerns regarding whether large-scale infrastructure development and dam-building in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region may have exacerbated the flooding's severity.
