In late July 2026, Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said the outfit was "fighting “fighting with both hands tied" tied” because it could not yet meet the new $215 million budget cap. Despite limited resources, the team posted a strong start, sitting fourth in the constructors’ standings after the first two races, with driver Oliver Bearman delivering top-ten finishes. By early August, the team acknowledged a shortfall that would keep it operating below the cap. Haas had slipped to seventh in the standings and highlighted outdated simulators and development tools as constraints. Komatsu reiterated that securing additional funding remained a top priority, while praising staff dedication. Further details released on 2 August showed that after seven races Haas had scored only 21 points. The workforce of roughly 400 people remains far smaller than the 1,000-plus staff at leading rivals, limiting the team’s ability to develop the new 2026 chassis and power-unit package. Komatsu warned the financial gap could jeopardise the retention of emerging talent such as Oliver Bearman, whose future depends on fielding a competitive car. By 9 August, Komatsu provided a mixed assessment of the team's performance, noting a sharp decline following their initial success. While Bearman had previously reached fifth in the drivers' standings, the team has struggled to keep pace with the rapid development cycles of competitors. Following the April break, Haas has found it difficult to score points, with both Esteban Ocon and Bearman seeing limited success. Komatsu maintained that the drop in performance reflects environmental and scale limitations rather than staff ability. By early September, the team’s scoring drought continued, with no points recorded since Esteban Ocon’s ninth-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix in June. While Komatsu remains optimistic that the technical department can catch the pack, Oliver Bearman expressed skepticism regarding recent updates.
