The Haitian government and the National Directorate for Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) have initiated several projects to improve drinking water access across different departments. In the Nord-Est department, the government launched construction and rehabilitation projects for water supply systems in Carice, Grosse-Roche, Corosse, and Pont-Sable. These projects, funded by the Public Investment Program, utilize photovoltaic solar panels to power pumps and ensure energy autonomy. In the South-East department, DINEPA has officially launched a 15-month rehabilitation project for the drinking water supply system in Bainet. Managed by the Regional Office for Drinking Water and Sanitation of the South (OREPA-Sud), the initiative aims to improve water access and hydraulic infrastructure for more than 10,000 residents. The project is funded by the World Bank, with technical supervision and management provided by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). Execution has been assigned to a consortium consisting of BECAG, BECOCI, and ACoR. Local authorities have expressed support for the initiative to ensure a regular supply of potable water. Additionally, DINEPA has issued a call for expressions of interest to identify operators for water supply systems in rural towns with populations between 3,000 and 20,000. This initiative seeks to involve private companies, NGOs, or community operators in various management models, such as technical operation or maintenance. Interested parties have until November 30, 2026, to submit applications.
