Speculation arose regarding Hajime Moriyasu, the head coach of the Japan national football team, potentially being appointed to lead the Malaysia national team. This followed reports that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) was seeking experienced foreign coaches to prepare for the 2030 World Cup qualifiers and the 2031 Asian Cup. FAM President Ab Ghani Hassan denied these rumors, stating the association had not made specific moves to approach or negotiate with Moriyasu. He clarified that while foreign appointments are under consideration, any decision would require executive committee discussion. During a panel discussion in Shizuoka City on October 17, Moriyasu reflected on the team’s performance against Brazil, noting that while they maintained an organized defensive block, more individual pressure might have secured a victory. He also expressed pride in the history created by his predecessors. Regarding future roles, he stated he would consider managing the J1 club Shimizu S-Pulse if an official offer were presented. Further reports from Nikkan Gendai indicate that Moriyasu intends to pursue coaching opportunities in Europe once his tenure with the Samurai Blue concludes. One potential destination is the Belgian club Sint-Truidense, which is owned by the Japanese company DMM.com. Sint-Truidense CEO Takayuki Tateishi has previously expressed interest in bringing Moriyasu to Belgium to serve as a stepping stone to major European leagues. While Moriyasu remains under contract with Japan through the 2027 Asian Cup, his preference for European football appears to have sidelined rumors of a move to Southeast Asia. Recent updates suggest Moriyasu is expected to step down following the AFC Asian Cup in early 2027. While his agent has indicated a preference for club management in Europe, Moriyasu has also previously expressed interest in managing V-Varen Nagasaki.
