Hanoi authorities have expressed fundamental agreement with a proposal from Vingroup to research dredging and renovating the riverbeds of the Red River and Da River. The project aims to improve flood drainage, stabilize river channels, ensure dike safety, and support inland waterway transport. Additionally, the initiative seeks to provide land-filling materials for major infrastructure projects and manage recovered mineral resources to increase state budget revenue. City Chairman Vu Dai Thang noted the project is unprecedented due to its use of socialized capital. Officials emphasized that research must be scientifically sound to prevent erosion or adverse effects on water supplies and must align with the capital’s 100-year master plan. On a national level, the Vietnamese government is also reviewing Group I mineral planning for the 2021–2030 period. period, with a vision toward 2050. During a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, officials discussed addressing bottlenecks in resource management. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is working to resolve issues such as overlapping boundaries overlaps between mineral reserves, residential areas, infrastructure, and protected forests. In Lam Dong province, for example, bauxite planning currently overlaps with residential areas and transportation projects, hindering local development. The goal is to ensure mineral extraction aligns with national energy security and land-use efficiency.
