Hanwha Group succession and split

In July 2026, Hanwha Group’s shareholders approved an in‑kind split of the holding company, slated for August 1. The restructuring creates a new listed entity, tentatively called Hanwha Machinery & Service Holdings, to house the group’s technology‑focused businesses (machinery, robotics, semiconductor equipment, distribution, hospitality, and food services). The parent company retains defense, shipbuilding, energy, and finance operations. The split formalises a three‑brother succession plan: eldest brother Kim Dong‑kwan will lead defense, shipbuilding and energy; second brother Kim Dong‑won will oversee finance; youngest brother Kim Dong‑sun will head the new tech‑life unit.

On August 1, Hanwha announced that the three brothers were simultaneously promoted—Kim Dong‑kwan to senior vice‑chairman, Kim Dong‑won to vice‑chairman, and Kim Dong‑sun to president of Hanwha Vision. Five subsidiary CEOs were also appointed to strengthen individual business units. Both steps are presented as part of the broader succession strategy and an effort to sharpen focus on high‑growth, policy‑sensitive sectors.
