Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya has experienced a series of physical setbacks throughout 2026, including back spasms, a quadriceps injury, and a calf niggle. These injuries caused him to miss several international assignments, such as the ODI series against Afghanistan and T20I series against Ireland and England. Following rehabilitation, Pandya was named in the India A white-ball squad for an upcoming series against Australia A in Puducherry. While his participation remained subject to final fitness clearance by the BCCI, his return was viewed as significant for national selection strategy due to the tactical flexibility his all-round capabilities provide. On September 18, head coach Gautam Gambhir provided an update on Pandya’s status, stating that the all-rounder is not yet fully fit to bowl his full quota of 10 overs in One Day International (ODI) matches. While Pandya’s potential return to the national T20 and ODI squads depends on his performance with India A and clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the team has moved forward with other options. On September 25, Pandya suffered a new setback involving a right shin injury. Recent scans have confirmed the injury, leading the BCCI medical team to advise complete rest for approximately two weeks. Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, head of the BCCI medical panel, is expected to assess the reports upon his return from Japan to determine rehabilitation steps. This injury is expected to sideline him from the India A one-day series against Australia A starting October 6 and makes his participation in the white-ball tour of New Zealand, beginning October 22, highly unlikely. The setback also derailed previous plans for his participation in the Asian Games. This latest issue marks his third injury in four months, and team management is reportedly prioritizing long-term fitness for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
