The HarmonyOS ecosystem has experienced significant growth in device installations and global market standing. In early August 2026, Huawei’s App Market reported that the HarmonyOS version of WeChat had surpassed 70 million unique installations, a milestone supported by frequent updates to align core functions with other major mobile platforms. By late August 2026, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that HarmonyOS had become the third-largest mobile operating system in the world, with the open-source ecosystem reaching a cumulative total of over 1.35 billion devices. Additionally, Huawei reported that HarmonyOS 6 terminal device numbers had exceeded 80 million units. On August 31, 2026, Huawei announced an international rollout of HarmonyOS, aiming for a completed global launch by the end of 2026. The company is initiating pilot programs in selected countries following its success in China. With an average of 170,000 new activations per day, Huawei expects to exceed 100 million devices by the fourth quarter of 2026. In China, HarmonyOS holds a 24% market share, surpassing iOS. The ecosystem now includes over 100,000 native applications and extends to vehicles and smart home devices. However, global expansion may face challenges from regulatory scrutiny and security concerns raised by U.S. politicians regarding surveillance risks.
